.NZ Domain Name Rules/Requirements

Domain Name related Rules

Common Domain Name Rules (Anchor: common)

  • Unique InfoTech provides Registration services under the following extensions:

    • .CO.NZ (for organizations pursuing commercial aims and purposes)

    • .NET.NZ (for organizations and service providers directly related to the NZ Internet)

    • .ORG.NZ (for non-profit organizations)

  • Domain Theft Protection feature is not supported for .NZ Domain Names.

    Protecting a Domain Name

  • For Resellers: Lock feature is not supported for .NZ Domain Names, while Suspension feature is supported.

  • Move (push) feature is not supported for .NZ Domain Names.

  • A .NZ Domain Name will not have any Money Back Period. If for any reason you need to Delete your Domain Name, contact our Support Team at http://support.uniqinfotech.com.

  • Upon deletion, a .NZ Domain Name enters Redemption Grace Period for 90 days. Moreover, the Pending Delete period (5 day period after Redemption Grace Period) is not applicable to a .NZ domain name. The Domain Name will be available for fresh Registration after 90 days from the date of Deletion.

Domain Name Registration (Anchor: reg)

  • A .NZ Domain Name may be Registered for 1 to 10 years.

  • A .NZ Domain Name can only contain alphabets a to z, numbers 0 to 9 and hyphens. However, it cannot have two hyphens in the third place. The minimum length permitted is 1 character while the maximum length is 63 characters (excluding the .NZ extension).

  • A .NZ Domain Name does not have a Money Back Grace Period.

  • The Bulk Registration feature not is available for .NZ Domain Names.

  • .NZ Domain Names do not support Internationalized Domain Names (IDN).

Domain Name Renewal (Anchor: ren)

  • A .NZ Domain Name may be Renewed for 1 to 10 years.

  • Upon Expiry of a .NZ Domain Name:

    • any service such as email, website, etc., configured for this Domain Name would stop functioning, until the Domain Name is Renewed.

    • if the .NZ Domain Name is not Renewed until 4 days, the Domain Name would get Deleted and would slip into Redemption Grace Period for 90 days.

      Moreover, the Pending Delete period (5 day period after Redemption Grace Period) is not applicable to a .NZ Domain Name. The Domain Name will be available for fresh Registration after 90 days from the date of Deletion.

Domain Name Transfer (Anchor: trf)

  • Upon Transferring a .NZ Domain Name, the Domain Name gets renewed by 1 year.

  • The 60 day Registration/Transfer Lock is not applicable in case of .NZ Domain Names.

    However, a .NZ Domain Name cannot be transferred within the initial 5 days of Registration.

  • All .NZ Domain Names have a Domain (Transfer) Secret Key/Authorization Code known as Unique Domain Authentication ID (UDAI), which is of 8 characters.

    You can not choose a UDAI of your own. The Registry directly assigns a UDAI upon Registration. You may generate a fresh UDAI from the Order Details view of a .NZ Domain Registration Order.

  • The Bulk Transfer feature is not available for .NZ Domain Names.

Contact Details related Rules (Anchor: contact)

  • .NZ Domain Names use the General Contact database in the system.

    In case of a .NZ Domain Name, only the Registrant Contact information needs to be provided and hence, the Contact Details view will display only the Registrant Contact. However, a Whois of a .NZ Domain Name will also display an Administrative Contact and a Technical Contact, both these Contacts enlisting details as those of the Registrant Contact.

  • .NZ Domain Names do not support Unique InfoTech's Privacy Protection feature.

  • The Bulk Modify feature is not supported for .NZ Domain Names.

Name Servers and Child Name Servers related Rules (Anchor: ns)

  • Each .NZ Domain Name needs to have at least 2 Name Servers and may have upto 10 Name Servers.

  • The total number of Name Servers and Child Name Servers taken together should not exceed 10 in case of a .NZ Domain Name.

  • Each Child Name Server under a .NZ Domain Name can have only one IPv4 Address associated with it.

  • You may modify both Name Servers as well as any Child Name Servers associated with your .NZ Domain Name.

    However, upon modification of the Hostname of a Child Name Server under a .NZ Domain Name, you need to manually make necessary modification to the Domain Name(s) using the original Child Name Server.
